Forest School is a nature-based community where trained practitioners nurture and support learner-led exploration and discovery. The concept originated in Scandinavia and over the last 30 years spread across the continent with now thousands of Forest Schools running across the country. It is all about children building self-esteem, independence, and skills through exploring the natural world, thus countering the modern trend for children to have little contact with the natural world during their education and free play. The ethos of Forest School allows learners the time and space to develop skills, interests and understanding through practical, ‘real life’ experiences.
In 2011, the Forest School community agreed on six principles, which we adopt at the Milwards Forest School:
If you have any questions regarding Forest School, please see Mr Smith (Jed Jackrabbit) or Miss Cooper (Sam Squirrel). We will be happy to support you in getting your child ready for their Forest School experience.
