Primary School Admissions 2023/24

As you may be aware, the primary school (Reception) admission round opens on 7th November 2022, for parents/carers to apply for a Reception school place for the academic year that starts in September 2023.

The statutory national closing date for applications is 15 January 2023.

All applications received after 15 January 2023 will be treated as late and will only be processed after all on-time applications.

You are less likely to get a place at one of your preferred schools if you apply later.

From 7 November 2022, applications can be made online via www.essex.gov.uk/admissions. 

We do not send letters to parents about making an application. All of the application and admissions information is available on the website above and we will be promoting via our website, social media and the printed press.

Places will be offered on 17 April 2023.

The website www.essex.gov.uk/admissions also has a copy of the Primary Education in Essex 2022-23 booklet and the Schools Admissions Policies Directories contain details of all admission policies.

We will upload the 2023-4 booklet when it is available.

Applying for a mid-year admissions place at Milwards Primary School and Nursery

All mid-year applications should be made directly to Milwards Primary School and Nursery, using the mid-year application form on our website.  Please see form below.  Mid-year applications (sometimes called in-year applications) are any application for a school place made to a year group, apart from September admissions to Reception.

Please email your application(s) to admissions@milwards.essex.sch.uk

For applications into existing year groups, a place will be offered when the number of pupils in the relevant year group is below the admission number for that year group.

Please note : if a mid-year admission application is received during a school holiday period, we will respond as soon as possible when the school reopens.

If offered a place at the school a senior member of staff will be happy to give you an induction tour with your child.

Between April - 31st December each year, Milwards School hold a Reception waiting list. Please contact the school office staff to ask where your child is ranked on the list.  

We do not automatically maintain the waiting list after the end of the autumn term (31st December) of the academic year that your child starts school.  If you would like your child to remain on the waiting list from the spring term, we ask that you contact the school in December so we can arrange this.
